- Song Name
- Glory Alleluia
- Artist
- Mélissa Bédard
This past year, my family made some wonderful new friends who live in Paris, France. I thought it would be nice to find some French Christmas music to sequence in their honor. I stumbled upon this amazing singer, Mélissa Bédard, and this song, in particular, that I could put on repeat all day long.
The music is the Battle Hymn of the Republic, but the lyrics have been rewritten as a Christmas song. Here's a rough translation with a little artistic license for those who don't speak French. For those of you who speak French, my apologies. If you have suggestions for a better translation, I would love to hear them! I intend to have the translation as part of the prologue to the song in my show, so a better translation would be appreciated!
The most beautiful night of all nights,
Is this Christmas night,
When the shepherds, so amazed,
Lifted their eyes up to the sky.
A star seems to say,
“Follow me, I will lead you.”
For He was born this night.
Glory, Glory, Alleluia
Glory, Glory, Alleluia
Glory, Glory, Alleluia, let’s sing, let’s sing Noël.
On the straw, out in the stable,
They all knelt down to pray,
The poor and the princes,
At the feet of the newborn babe.
And this song, like a river,
Flowed out across the land.
For He was born this night.
Glory, Glory, Alleluia
Glory, Glory, Alleluia
Glory, Glory, Alleluia, let’s sing, let’s sing Noël.
The most beautiful night of all nights,
Is this Christmas night,
In the heart of every man,
A little love falls from the sky.
So many things divide us,
But this star, it unites us.
On this glorious night.
Glory, Glory, Alleluia
Glory, Glory, Alleluia
Glory, Glory, Alleluia, let’s sing, let’s sing Noël.
