I am also a newbie (From Colorado) to pixels and xlights. For the last six years my light shows have been using lightshowpi which is a raspberry pi, a solid state relay and standard Christmas lights. With this setup I have been playing my music to my lights. It would play to any music that I could run through the raspberry pi. this gave me significant flexibility and was easy to configure. However, lightshowpi is very techy (need to understand some linux) and the support system has pretty much gone over the years.
I know very little (nothing but what I have learned in the last two weeks) about sequence controlled lights. However, I am looking forward to xlights and sequences because they are so much more sophisticated than what I am use to. Some of the shows I have seen are absolutely phenomenal. I have put together my own "learning" hardware. I have assembled a Falcon F16V5 controller, a couple of meanwell power supplies, FPP running raspberry pi 4 and a few strands of xconnect bullet pixels. I plan to build most of my own props. it is very early in my learning process, but I am running into some questions using xlights, I am looking to this forum as a valuable resource.
Thanks
