Brand New to Holiday Lights, need general advice for XLights

Hello!
I originally wanted to have a choreographed Christmas light show on our dental office building this year, but I have been overwhelmed by the amount of details and information involved with setup. I have not been able to find a technician for hire who can design and install such a light show.
Where do I start with all of this? I am essentially brand new to the extravagant Christmas lighting scene.
Where do you buy the lights and decide how many to get? Do all of you install and design the lights yourself? What exactly is "XLights"? How many outdoor outlets do I need? Etc ect!!
